Teaching Philosophy

Sohad’s commitment to reducing prejudice and creating more positive climates for people from all backgrounds anchors her teaching. Sohad strives to:

  1. Provide students with the fundamental tools to master the course material and perform well including: how to study and learn; how to adjust to the demands of new situations they might face in college; and how to find and use resources available to them.

  2. Cultivate students’ interest in course material so that they grow to value the knowledge offered by the field of psychology.

  3. Provide students with a space in which they can question and share ideas, opinions, and intuitions.

  4. Embolden students to become active participants in the production of knowledge through inquiry and research.

  5. Cultivate an appreciation and respect for diversity and help students understand the importance of diversity in people, viewpoints, ideologies, beliefs, values, and lifestyles for generating discourse and progress.
